Seifert volunteers took part in the Salina Nature Reserve clean-up day.

    Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Seifert Systems has once again kept up its CSR commitment taking part in the HSBC’s CSR Day. This year Seifert teamed up with BirdLife Malta organising a clean-up of one of the Salina salt pans, before it is refilled with sea water for salt production.

Salina is a Nature Reserve, and the protection and wellbeing of the birds is a main priority, especially during migration periods The site’s potential to attract a number of birds species has been proven repeatedly by birds alighting in the salt pans to rest during migration, among which the most spectacular; the flamingo – a bird synonymous with salt pans, especially in the Mediterranean. Salina is a protected area forming part of the Natura 2000 network and also a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) because of the endemic flora and fauna which can be found in the area.

The clean-up event took place on Tuesday, 18th March. The Seifert team of volunteers for the cleanup featured employees from all strata of the company’s hierarchy, led by Mrs Wibke Seifert, wife of Seifert Group Chairman, Michael R. Seifert, and Sustainability Manager, Ing Reuben Attard, together with other team members from different departments. The works involved the cleaning of mud and other accumulated dirt in the salt pan. The yearly cleanup was skipped last year due to a flamingo nesting in the area.
